Click to enlargeINCLUSION: A SERVICE, NOT A PLACE -- A WHOLE SCHOOL APPROACH

As we move toward more inclusive environments in our nation's classrooms, educators need a blueprint to assist them in creating a "whole school" approach. The authors present a comprehensive framework that enables administrators, teachers and staff developers to build an effective schoolwide approach that focuses on "service" rather than "location" in teaching special education students. Using clips from actual classrooms, the framework takes an additional meaning as its main features are seen "in action." This is true theory in practice!

The book, which is included with the purchase of the video, is designed to serve as a hands-on free-standing resource. It contains sections that address IDEA (PL. 105-17), development of the students program, collaboration, differentiated classrooms, curricular adaptations, supplementary aids & services, and more. This package is practical, comprehensive, easy to use and full of resources. Included are "best practices" based upon experience and current research.

The book is also a "stand alone" that supports the implementation of inclusive practices by presenting the following:

a definition and description of the inclusive practice, the relationship of the practice to IDEA, "best practices," based upon experience and current research, roles for school personnel, administrators, related services providers, and clinicians, roles for parents, "black line" masters for use in staff development activities, or by teachers to help structure inclusive classrooms, references for additional treatment about each topic, additional information about resources, organizations, videos, web sites, and a glossary

The viewer will, by watching the video and using the accompanying manual be able to:

--Understand the concept of a whole school approach to inclusion

--Recognize the value that an effective school-wide approach has on all students

--Observe best inclusionary practices, based upon experience and current research that support growth of all students
