Grades K-2

Dependability is one of the cornerstones of good character. Using true-to-life vignettes and lively music, this program helps young children understand what it means to be dependable, why it’s important to live up to your word, and the consequences of not being someone others can depend on.

Betsy and Jordan’s class is putting on a play. Betsy promises to bring in her brother’s old clown costume that would be just perfect for Jordan’s part. When she forgets, Jordan is very angry and disappointed. Betsy doesn’t understand why Jordan is angry. She doesn’t understand why he tells the kids working on their mural group project that they shouldn't count on her to do her share.

That weekend Betsy’s brother promises to take her for ice cream when he and his friends finish playing their game. But then he forgets all about his promise and leaves without her. Now Betsy understands how Jordan must have felt when she disappointed him. She makes up her mind to prove to him and the other kids in the group project that she is someone they can depend on. Includes 8 student worksheets & teacher’s guide. (18 min) c2003
