YOU'RE FIRED!

Regardless of age, nobody wants to hear the words, “You’re fired.” For young people entering the job market, the possibility of being fired is even greater than among older employees, since young workers may not have a broad understanding of what job performance means. Most people get fired, not because they can’t do the job, but as a result of poor work habits and unacceptable behaviors. This video aims to help teens arm themselves with specific, reality-based tools that will help them remain employed. The video combines real teens with employment experts who explain that what teens think is “acceptable behavior” is often not permissible in the workforce. The video explores issues such as tardiness, appearance, attitude, dishonesty and incompetency, insubordination, substance abuse on the job, sloppiness, and unreliability. Each issue is analyzed by experts who explain how these behaviors can undermine the reputation of even the most talented employee. The powerful take-home message of this video is clear: no matter how capable you are, if you create problems for your boss and your co-workers, then “You’re Fired!” The video and Teacher’s Resource Book underscore the importance of using mature judgment in various job situations, and offer helpful tips on how to behave appropriately at the workplace in order to succeed. 2004.
